Aviation Safety, Security a Priority

Transport Minister Malakai Tabar says ensuring safety and security is a paramount requirement of government regulatory agencies responsible for providing and facilitating air transport services in the country.


Tabar said that in Port Moresby on Friday during the launching of a project by PNG Air Services Limited (PNGASL) in partnership with the Australian government through the Transport Support Sector Program (TSSP) to build Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in PNG.


“Safety standards and safety compliance cannot be traded with other aspects of government spending in the air transport sub-sector,” Tabar said.


He said PNG Population was rural-based and the transport sector was the heart of PNG’s vibrant and challenging economy. “Transport provides connectivity and accessibility for our people’s prosperity. We must consider the safety and security of our people and ensure business are done in a safe environment,” Tabar said.


He praised the PNGASL board and management for their commitment to deliver what was expected despite the shortfall funding.
